OneCoast is committed to Zero Waste and Waste Minimisation and works within community education principles. This means that the more you volunteer, the more you learn and the more you help others in the community learn too. You don't need to be an expert in zero waste or waste minimisation, you just need to care about making a difference.
There are many ways to get involved at the Hub, from helping sort donations to displaying and selling items, as well as welcoming and engaging with our visitors.
As our work takes place on DCC-owned land, all volunteers are required to complete a police check and provide a valid vaccine pass prior to starting.
Time commitments are flexible — from as little as three hours a month to a regular weekly role. We welcome people who bring positive energy, care about their community, and are passionate about making a positive environmental impact.
Volunteers can get involved in community events, education activities, and occasional working bees throughout the year. These hands-on opportunities often include planting and practical projects that help improve our spaces and support green waste return.
Roles are casual, social, and well supported, with connection and teamwork at the heart of everything we do.
Time commitment: Casual — typically 3–4 times per year. Attendance at every event isn’t expected, though participation in at least two per year is appreciated.
We're especially keen to hear from members of our community about their own initiatives and ways that they can support Zero Waste and Waste Minimisation. If you've got an idea - we can support. After all, we're here to make things happen!
You're interested in volunteering with us - great! We're a friendly, practical, down-to-earth bunch. You'll love it!
First, we need you to fill out a registration of interest form. This form has all the practical information like your contact information in it, but also some health and safety questions so that if we can make sure you're safe .
Once we have this information, we'll give you a call or we can meet you face to face. We'll go through the next steps like what you are interested in, your skills you'd like to contribute and our confidentiality and volunteer agreement. If you need to do a police check, we'll get this sorted and we will need to sight some ID. For roles requiring a police check, we will need to wait until we have received this back before you start volunteering. This usually takes around 2-3 weeks.
Once we've got all the paperwork back, we'll do orientation, training and any other special information that you may need to keep you safe while volunteering with us. It may sound like a lot of work to do but it'll pass by in a whizz.
Feel free to get in touch with us about anything. We're always happy to help.
